Last Saturday (March 30) was an unusual date for us, it was a night full of grappling, kicking and punching. Don’t get me wrong me didn’t fight haha. We watched the “Baragan at Latayan” event at the Sidewalk Food Hub. It was organized by the Underground Battle Mixed Martial Arts Championship where there ate 13 bouts of Fun Fights, 12 bouts of Predator Fight Series and 4 bouts for the Quarter Finals of Juego Todo.
To give you a brief background about UGBMMA, they are the Premier Amateur Mixed Martial Arts League in the Philippines armed with three year exclusive WSOF-GC (World Series of Fighting Global Championship) contact.
Fun Fights are strictly amateur league, the participants with zero experience can fight inside the cage while the Preadtor Fight Series are also known the gym beat down fights.
For the main event, this not the traditional MMA cage-fighting. Juego Todo is the newest Hybrid Combat Sports. Each fighter will use a padded sticks with the concept of “hatawan”, “basagan”, “ratratan” and “wasakan. This is a weaponized cage fighting.
Juego Todo is a three 3-minute rounds of fight which includes the following:
- Round 1 (With WEKAF headgear, no body armour): Double sticks with kicks, knee strikes, and sweeps
- Round 2 (With WEKAF headgear, no body armour): Single stick with elbows, punches, kicks, knee strikes, sweeps
- Round 3 (No headgear, no body armour): Mano y mano (Fighters can use different forms of Filipino martial arts, including Panuntukan, Sikaran, Dumog, Buno, Yaw-Yan, etc.
Followed by Jason Mahusay Oranda vs Joemar Gallaza where Oranda was declared winner on points using the refined Juego Todo Ruleset.
