Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant’s newest Aburi-Style Maki

We were invited by Zomato to try out the newest line of Aburi-style Maki of Watami. Watami belongs to Bistro Group, the same company who owns  T.G.I.F, Italiannis, Krazy Garlik and ,many more.

As to date, Watami has five branches already. We had our #PrigiEats at their Greenbelt 2 branch. This dining area has been here since February this year. Few more months and they will celebrate their first anniversary. hooray!

Watami’s dining area is divided into two, the air-conditioned area and the alfresco one. We opted to stay at the alfresco area because it has a perfect lighting for our food photo shoot. We were served with complimentary hot tea while waiting.

Watami Salad (P255)
We started off our meal with two kinds of salad, something light just to whet our appetite. The Watami Salad is a combination of grilled chicken and shrimps over fresh greens, tomatoes and corns. They used toasted sesame based dressing which I liked. It has a nice smoky taste.

Assorted Sashimi Salad (P425)
The next salad that we tried as the Assorted Sashimi Salad, it has the same greens with the first one combined with strips of bell pepper. It has tuna and salmon sashimi on top which makes this salad a little bit special. They used the vinaigrette dressing for this one.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, we were there for their Aburi-style Maki which they officially released last November 30. It’s  Aburi style meaning they take a torch and sear the top of whatever the main ingredient is. One order is composed of 6 pieces of Maki.

Aburi Salmon Maki (P375)
Like for this one, it has torched salmon on top. The japanese rice was perfectly cooked which makes it pleasant to eat.

Shrimp Aburi (P275)
Another option is the one with shrimp, though the shrimp doesn’t looked like that it was torched. It has spring onions and roe on top.  This one is something light among the three aburis.

Aburi Tuna Maki (P315)
Torched tuna with tempura flakes topped with bonito flakes, spring onions and sriracha mayo. This one is a little bit spicy yet very satisfying.

Pork Katsu (P275)
They also served us with Pork and Chicken Katsu. Both were crunchy on the outside but I find it dry on the inside. I was looking for a moist and juicy Katsu.  Both Katsu orders comes with refillable cabbage and rice.

Chicken Katsu (P295)

Yes, I enjoyed their Aburis but sadly their service is quite slow. We have waited for several minutes before we got our orders. We had two servings of each dish but unfortunately they came out separately. We even waited for an hour just to have our Katsu. I hope Bistro Group can do something about this because it is a total turn off to paying customers.
