Tech Island 3.0


Last year  I was able to attend the Smart Logistic Solution, a suite of software and hardware specifically designed to cater to the needs of transportation, logistics and distribution industries. This time PLDT Smart SME Nations gears up for the biggest Tech summit for (micro, small and medium enterprises) MSME’s last April 22, 2016 at the Harbour Tent of Sofitel Plaza Manila.

PLDT EVP, Head of EICB and ePLDT CEO Eric R. Albert, led the group of speakers by sharing insights based on his experience in guiding the PLDT Group’s Enterprise and International activities, both fixed and wireless businesses, to an annual revenue turnover accountability of over 65 billion pesos.


Tech Island on its third year aims to educate, enable and empower MSME’s to solve real life business challenges through technology. This year’s theme for Tech Island 3.0 is a story of overcoming challenges, embracing change and conquering opportunities. Digital solutions can provide very affordable solutions to be more competitive and expand every businesses horizons. For the first time, they opened the slots to the general public.

Merlee Jayme, Chairman and Chief Exeutive Officer 

She’s the “Chairmom” and CEO of the newly launched DENTSU Jayme Syfu, the nrecent merger between DENTSU and DM9 Jayme Syfu. Best known worldwide for Smart Txtbks, the award-winning idea of transforming used SIM cards and old GSM phones into a new kind of textbook for public schools. She discussed the digital marketing trends and how sucessful companies have adapted to modern digital landscape.


Winston Damarillo, PLDT Chief Strategy Officer

He shared the strategies on how businesses can go digital through specifically-designed business solutions for MSME’s. A Silicon Valley veteran, he led strategic investments at Intel Capital.


Laurence Cua, Country Manager of Uber Philippines

He enlightened the audience on rel-life application of digital technology. Uber aims to increase the safety of transportation in our country by providing accessibility to information, bringing accountability, transparency and trace-ability to transportation.


Alfredo Tan, Group Director of Global Marketing Solutions, Facebook Canada, Interim Country Director, Facebook Philippines

He was responsible for a broad portfolio as a Senior Director at Yahoo! He discussed the digital exploration on how Facebook has evolved to serve the business community. He also talked about some digital trends that can help business jumps tart their digital journey.

Break out sessions are divided into four categories:

  • The Captain- the CEO’s and the owners; focuses on global expansion through digital
  • The Navigator- sales and marketing; highlight digital trends and market activations
  • The Trader- finance and procurement; about streamlining systems
  • The Engineer- operation and IT; software security
