We went all the way to Lobo, Batangas last October 23, 2017 for the grand launch of the First Kabuhayan Bakery in the said province. The Verde Island Passage in Lobo, Batangas, is known worldwide as the “Center of Global Shorefish Biodiversity” unfortunately, it is now in grave danger due to excessive mining. The sad reality is that we can’t blame the residents here because this is the only livelihood they have.
Thanks to the initiative of Goldilocks Foundation, in partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc.’s (ALKFI’s), Bantay Kalikasan and the Nutrition Center of the Philippines the Kabuhayan Bakery was built.
The Kabuhayan Bakery was built inside the Masaguitsit-Banalo High Schools which aims to have an alternative means of livelihood for the locals and somehow lessen their dependence in mining,
Through the help of Goldilocks bakeshop, some of the locals were given an appropriate training from baking breads and even handling the business itself from a managerial perspective. As of the moment, Kabuhayan Bakery is producing around 500 breads a day which are sold inside the school alone. They are also planning to incorporate some of the provinces native fruits like atis and tamarinds in their breads.
Below are some of the Kabuhayan Bakery breads which they sell for P5.00 each.
Honda Philippines, even donated a motorcycle to help transport the Kabuhayan Bakery products around the city.
According to Goldilocks this is the first Kabuhayan Bakery that they launched but definitely will not be their last. They are targeting to replicate this project and soon will also help other provinces in the Philippines.
Through the help of the Kabuhayan Bakery project, they hope to lesser the people around the VIP and opt to pursue other livelihood options.
I am a living witness how beautiful the Lobo, Bantangas province is as we were toured around to see and experience what the program aims to preserve. You can read more about Lobo, Batangas here.
