Teppanya: It’s not just Food, It’s Entertainment!

I’ve been hearing positive comments about Teppanya from my friends who had tried them already. I was so excited when I got an invitation from Zomato for a foodie meet up at the said restaurant. Perfect timing as we just came back from a four days #PrigiTrip to Leyte. If you’re following me on Instagram (@joyrneytolife) we stayed in an island and managed to do it on a tipid travel by bringing some baon for the whole trip. What a warm welcome for us Zomato!hihi!

The next day after we arrived, we went to Teppanya located at the 2nd floor of Evia Lifestyle Center in Daang Hari. It was exactly lunch time, my stomach is in perfect condition for a feast. While waiting for our fellow foodies I checked out their menu and guess what?? They have steaks which came all the way from other countries. clap!clap! I can’t wait to try them out.

Teppanya

Teppanya which means “House of Teppanyaki”. In traditional Japanese cuisine, teppanyaki refers to dishes being cooked using an iron plate. Here at Teppanya, expect a performance artistry of the teppanyaki chef who masterfully prepare and cook your food right in front of your eyes..

Teppanya opened their first branch in Clark Pampanga, out of its success they decided to opened another branch here in Manila

Teppanya

They have  Standard 3 Course Starter Set P195 which consists of your own choice of vegetables or salad (stir fried mix vegetables, grilled eggplant with bonito flakes, kani salad, chicken teriyaki salad and spinach ohitashi), soup (miso soup, clam soup plus P35 or shrimp and bamboo shoot Soup just add P45 and rice (gohan, chahan, or add P125 for emperor’s chahan) or you may it to upgrade to a Premium 5 Course Starter Set P365 that already has an appetizer (tuna tataki, agedashi tofu, usuyaki beef, salmon tataki, chicken karaage or add P65 for the baked tuna boat seasoned with miso) and a dessert (banana flambe, creme brulee or mixed fruit salad).

You have too many options to choose from but I’ll share with you what we tried so at least you will have an idea (wink!).

For appetizer we had the Usuyaki Beef, thin rolls of beef were cooked in the griddle and then stuffed with vegetable and mushroom topped with fried garlic. It’s like you’re eating a bacon. So flavorful and addicting.

Next was the Clam soup. Simple yet delicious. a soup that is rich in iodine.  Scoop the meat out of the shell and slurp the perfectly seasoned soup.

For rice we had the Emperor’s Chahan, we enjoyed  how the chef prepared this dish as he tried tossing and catching the eggs by using his spatula.  A trick that truly entertained us. Flavorful rice topped with fish roe and strips of nori.

Almost bite-sized tender and crispy chicken with salad on side. When we’re all done with the starters, it’s now time for the steaks. yipee! The most awaited part of lunch. We were served with high quality of meat. My favorite was the Wagyu A4 (P1,988/150g;P3,888/300g) and the Wakanui. Both has particularly good balance of fat, see those marbling yumyum! Extremely juicy and the flavor just spreads out in my mouth. Cooked in medium rare without any additional flavor. They added some extra salt, pepper and their addicting garlic chips on the side.

I’m not a fan of lamb because I don’t like its after taste in my mouth. Trying the rich and wondrous delicious fat of the Lamb Chops of Teppanya gave me a second chance to consider this meat. Whether you’re a lamb lover, hater or somewhere in between, it’s worth trying this dish.

Teppanya

We also tried their Foie Gras or the slab of fatty goose liver served with Fuji Apple Reduction Sauce that balances its flavor.  For me it tasted like a bone marrow, soft and melts on the tongue.

After we devoured the steak, next were the seafood.  Imported Scallops (seasonal price)from Japan. Pan-seared cooked to perfection with salt, pepper and other spices that brings out the natural flavors of the scallops. Pretty delicious but I only had one piece of it because I need to share (crying!!!).

Another creature from the sea is the King Prawns  (P695/3 pcs.), relatively expensive but you’ll be surely satisfied after. The chef  cooked it in plain butter resulting to fresh shrimp-y flavor. A divine dish that fit for a king!

Teppanya

We were served with Norwegian Salmon Fillet (P325/120g) cooked in a foil. This technique traps the moisture inside that prevent the salmon from drying out. The salmon is already good on its own. My Japanese food journey at Teppanya is incomplete  without trying out their Nigiri and Maki. What’s the difference between the two? Okay let me explain them a little. Nigiri is a type of sushi made of thin slices of raw fish over pressed vinegared rice while Maki or Makimono is a roll made  from sushi rice and filled with fish, vegetables or any other ingredients. So which one do you prefer? Me? I love them both!

Teppanya

If you’re  an adventurous eater Nigiri is for you, mostly they used raw fish for it. We had six kinds of Nigiri that day – Tamago or Kani,Unagi , Saba, Salmon, Tuna  and Ebi.  Clean, fresh and simple. You can tell that their chef has delicately prepared this dish.

Teppanya

We also three kinds of Maki from Teppanya, the Green Dragon Roll (P345/4 pcs;P595/8pcs) consists of shrimp tempura, crab stick and cucumber topped with unagi and avocado. (Tiger Roll P295)  combination of crab, cucumber, avocado and shrimp  and the Hot Night Roll P325)made from crab Stick, shrimp Tempura, cucumber and avocado with spicy tuna on top.  Teppanya is a perfect dining destination for all sushi lovers as they know their thing very well!

Lastly, a Banana Flambe (P195) to capped off our meal. Banana coated with tempura flakes topped with ice cream. I never had any tempura flakes for dessert before. I’m sure this will leave your taste buds begging for more.
