Union Jack Tavern is tucked in the street of Legaspi Village in Makati. A place where customers can gather over alcoholic drinks and be served with British and Indian dishes at the same time. You can get to experience British pub as the interior speaks for itself. Flags are also hanged all over the place.
The owner wants to maintain the typical huge serving of British cuisine so you’ll be satisfied. Every dish can be shared by at least two to three people.
Spicy Buffalo Wings (P295.00), the spicy sauce has the right amount of kick. I hope all the wings are coated evenly with the sauce to make it more enjoyable to eat. Served with celery sticks and blue cheese dip.
Chicken Quesadilla (P315.00), seasoned pan-fried chicken breast strips that needs more cheese. A little bit spicy due to green chili it has white onions too. Served with tomato salsa and garlic sour cream
Don’t ever think twice of getting the Fish and Chips (P425.00), so far this the best fish and chips that I have tried. The dory is covered with perfectly pan-fried crispy batter yet it’s moist inside. It comes with mushy peas and big cuts of fries.
The Lamb Shank (P595.00) is undeniably tender and moist it falls off from the bone. Sadly, it lacks flavor for me.
British takes their pies seriously, it’s a savory or sweet dish usually cooked in a container, consisting of a quantity of food with a covering or base of pastry. I’m glad we have sampled some of Union Jack Tavern’s Pies.
Love the flaky crust of the Sausage Roll (P185.00). The sausage was ordinary, it comes with a mustard sauce that somehow will enhance the flavor.
Chicken and Mushroom Pie (P395.00) is something lighter. The pastry was filled with moist chicken pieces with mushroom cooked in a white sauce.
Steak and Gravy Pie (P395.00), bursting with succulent beef chunks , onions and mushrooms cooked with a thick gravy sauce served in a crispy puff pastry. You won’t be disappointed!
For every order of Union Jack Tavern’s Pie it comes with two side dish. The choices are the
french bread, mixed vegetables. corn and carrots, mushy peas, french fries, hand cut chips or baked beans.
Union Jack Tavern’s Shepherd’s Pie (P425.00) is definitely a comfort dish, loaded with flavorful meat and UJT’s own gravy sauce topped with fluffy and creamy mashed potato. It somehow resemble the taste of the Steak Pie because they only used one kind of gravy sauce. My favorite among the dishes that we sampled that day.
Soft layers concealed by crisp outer layers that’s how Pratha (P115.00) should be. You can either have it plain, with butter or some Indian sauce.
Chicken Tikka Masala (P455.00), roasted bits of chicken in creamy, spice-infused tomato sauce. I would love it if has bite-sized chicken that I can chew. This can be paired with rice or pratha.
Another British Indian cuisine is the Chicken Curry, though I had the same sentiment on the cut of chicken I enjoyed it more over the Tikka Masala especially when it’s still hot.
Apple Crumble (P195.00), fresh green apples sweetened with sugar and cinnamon, topped with a crunchy crumble. A warm apple crumble dessert topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or custard is an ultimate dessert.
Union Jack Tavern’s Happy Hour start as early as 7:00AM to 10:30 AM and continue at 3:00PM to 8:00 PM daily. You get to enjoy alcoholic drinks like San Miguel Beer Draft Pale Mug for P60.00 or have San Miguel Draft light Pitcher for P235.00. It was only lunch time and too early for me to get a beer so I ordered their house blended ice tea instead which is simple and refreshing.
They also sell authentic British products like chocolate, sauces, beers and frozen dishes which you can take home after.
You may also join Union Jack Tavern’s Pub Quiz Night every Tuesday at 8:30 PM. For a Pub Quiz Fee of P100.00 you may win the following Gift Vouchers prizes: 1st place: P2,000 gift vouchers, 2nd place: P1,500 gift vouchers and 3rd place: P1,000 gift vouchers.
