The Pasay City Tourism Council, with the support of its City Mayor Tony Calixto led the first “Pasay Travel City Tourism and Heritage Expo” last March 23-26, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom, Newport City, Pasay.
According to the records , Pasay City originated way back during the reign of Rajah Soliman who married a Sumatran Princess who bore him to heirs, namely Princess Pasay and Prince Swaboy. Even before his death, he distributed his realm to his two children. Princess Pasay got a portion of that realm, hence the name Pasay.
“Pasay, the Travel City, Your Gateway to the Philippine Islands aims to create a network of exhibitors as partners in promoting the said expo. Trade fair booths for travel agencies, food and restaurant businesses, hotels, malls and other tourism-related business establishments in Pasay were featured. It also highlighted a photo exhibit of the nostalgic old Pasay dubbed “Travel in Time” to embrace its unique culture and history.
Pasay City is today one of the country’s highly-urbanized cities and as we all know it’s the home of the largest mall in Asia (Mall of Asia) and the biggest convention center in the Philippines (Philippine International Convention Center or PICC). Pasay City is one of the country’s prime aviation hub as this is where the Ninoy Aquino International Airport located, the main international gateway, as well the NAIA Centennial Airport Terminal , NAIA Terminal 3 and NAIA Terminal 4.
Pasay City is also a tourism hub, being home to some 23 hotels, catering to a wide range of tourists, travelers and vacationers. The city is also the seat of Philippine Culture and arts with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the country’s national theater.
This event coincided with the 16th National Convention of Lawyers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, with an estimated attendance of around 2,000 lawyers from all over the country with no less than Pres. RodrigoDuterte, Vice President Leni Robredo, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Pasay City Cong. Imelda Rubiano and City Mayor Antonino Calixto as guests of honor.
