Davao Day 2

Second day in Davao, I’m so excited to wake up to visit Samal Island. I’ve been searching google all night about this place!? We had our complimentary breakfast before leaving the hotel. You can choose from their menu list from Hotsilog, Longsilog, Tapsilog, Bread with butter and Jam, Chicken Adobo, Hamsilog and etc plus coffee or tea. Their food are tasty but with small servings. Incase your not yet full they have other food options that you can order which ranges from P60.00-P120.00. Good thing about free breakfast is that you don’t have to think what you will eat every morning. This can also save your time from searching for place to have your breakast. They serve complimentary breakfast from 6:00am to 9:00am.

We decided to take a cab (P170.00.00 from seda abreeza to wharf for 4 pax; 40 mins.) that will take us to Paradise Island Dock at Sasa where we can ride motor boats.  Along the road we  bought some durian and mangosteen that we can take to the island. Make sure to tell the taxi driver to open the trunk so you can put the durian.  Unlike us we forgot to do that haha!?Imagine our smell!?

Durian (P40.00/kilo) Also known as the odorous fruit hehe. The flavor of the pulp tastes like a rich custard mixed with almonds with a milky taste. The smell of the fruit is at first disgusting, which makes you reluctant to taste it. However, its yummy excellent taste makes you crave for more!

Unfortunately due to habagat the waves are too big that’s why they cannot allow passengers to cross  the island by a small boat!Clap! Clap! Safety of the people is their priority! Instead they refer  us  to ride the ferry boat which is just 5 minutes away.  When we arrived at the Ferry boat station we paid P10.00/ pax  and waited for the ferry boat to load passengers.

Almost there….

image You can hire habal habal (motorcycle) or their big tricycles in touring around the island. There are atleast 36 Island Beach Resorts that you can choose from. Some resorts and hotels have complete amenities. The rates are reasonable. For beach and sun loving people Samal Island is the best place for you. Where you can just sit and relax at the beach while enjoying the sound of the waves. We rented a tricycle to Paradise Island (P125.00/maximum of 6 pax) where we decided to spend our whole afternoon.

Entering the resort you need to walk for about 3 minutes going down to their reception. If we were only allowed to ride the boat at Sasa it will bring us to automatically to beach side which can also save us our tricycle expense.

Their rates are as follows:

PREMIER                 P3,900.00
DELUXE                   P3,500.00
Day Tour                   P200.00
Beach Overnight      P300.00

We availed their Day Tour Package. You may also bring your own snacks but they have extra charge for drinks. Remember that we have our “baon” the durian and mangosteen?! The resort won’t allow us to bring it by the beach they assigned a certain area where guests can only it eat because of it’s odorous smell ? We have no choice but to eat it first hehe! I failed my first try to eat the durian I got distracted by it’s smell!? But my davao experience will not be complete without trying their famous fruit and believe it or not I love it!? As I am writing this down I’m craving.. The beach has a covered portion where you can enjoy their fine polovoron like sands. It’s best to walk barefoot!

We had our lunch by the beach. Service was slow and we had to wait 45 minutes for our food to be served. Here’s the tip make sure to order ahead of time before roaming around the beach so when you’re done you can readily eat your food. Gladly, the tuna and squid are so good, tasty and fresh it compensate the long waiting time.
